We donate 3% (or a minimum of $3000) of all sales to help raise awareness and help find a cure for this disease.
Michael's parents both had MS (Multiple Sclerosis), a chronic disease which affects the central nervous system (brain & spiral cord). The immune system mistakenly attacks the brain and nerves. It is still unknown why that happens. It is very rare that two people in the same family has this disease. One reason might be that when renovating their house in the late 1970s, they had to clean pigeon feces from the attic. But this is not proven.
Quote from the MS Society of Canada: "The disease attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves, causing inflammation and often damaging the myelin. Myelin is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses through nerve fibres. If damage to myelin is slight, nerve impulses travel with minor interruptions; however, if damage is substantial and if scar tissue replaces the myelin, nerve impulses may be completely disrupted, and the nerve fibres themselves can be damaged. MS is unpredictable and may cause symptoms such as extreme fatigue, lack of coordination, weakness, tingling, impaired sensation, vision problems, bladder problems, cognitive impairment and mood changes. Its effects can be physical, emotional and financial. Currently there is no cure, but each day researchers are learning more about what causes MS and are zeroing in on ways to prevent it."
We supported our parents as much as we could, but without all the help from the MS Society of Germany, neighbours and friends, it would have been a real big burden for both of them. Since our parents are not with us any more, we like to help others and put the word out. Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world - an estimated 90,000 Canadians.
Michael and I are very grateful that we are able to do that and thank you very much for your support. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send us a message. We love to chat with you.
